LEVEL 2 Bikeability Cycle Training

Christleton High School has been chosen as one of a number of schools in the area to receive Bikeability Cycle Training. This training is designed to young people the skills and experience to cycle safely and confidently. It is Cycling Proficiency for the 21st century and involves cycling in both an off-road environment and on roads around the vicinity of the school.

Students enjoy cycling and of course it brings many health benefits, develops confidence and gives them independence. Young people who have been trained are much safer and, in addition, tend to cycle more.

The training is taking place take place on a number of different school days during the period January / February 2018.

Students receive a two hour Level One refresher in the School grounds before being taken onto the roads. Level Two takes place on local streets, giving students a real cycling experience. Trainees learn how to deal with traffic on short journeys such as cycling to school or the local shops.

Students learn how to: -

  • prepare for on-road cycling
  • start and finish an on-road journey
  • recognise typical hazards
  • let others know what you are about to do
  • know where to ride on the road
  • pass parked vehicles and side roads

Congratulations to those students who successfully complete the Level 2 training.

Sessions for the Level 3 course will take place later this term.
