Christleton Sixth Form Students Celebrate Their Wonderful A-Level Results.

(Posted on 18/08/22)
Sixth Form students at Christleton High School are celebrating today, following the release of their A-Level and BTEC results today.
The COVID-19 pandemic has made Sixth Form life especially challenging for our Year 13 cohort, with their GCSE examinations being determined through teacher assessments, meaning that their A-Level examinations were the first external examinations they have sat. This fact alone reaffirms just how fantastic their results are.
Each student has really risen to the challenge and ably demonstrated their commitment to hard work, and determination that will no doubt be invaluable for the next steps in their education path or career, whether that is university, apprenticeships or straight into the workforce.
Results this year showed that more than 97% of students passed all their A-Level examinations, with 71% achieving Grade B or higher in each subject taken. The average grade improved from C+ in 2019 (the last time physical exams were held) to B this year - a remarkable outcome given the highly disruptive world-environment that impacted on their studies and a similar grade to last year when centre assessed grades were awarded.
Continuing improvements in recent years, all of the twenty-four subjects in which our students took A-Levels have a 99% pass rate, showing just how engaged students have been over the past two years in completing their studies, given how disrupted their GCSE years were.
As an inclusive Sixth Form and in addition to A levels, Christleton High School offers a range of high performing BTEC courses. 75% of our students undertaking a BTEC received a Distinction or Distinction* in their studies and 99% of students received a Merit or above.
Commenting on the fantastic results, Headteacher, Darran Jones, said:
“After the disruption to their GCSEs, many of our Year 13 students joined the Sixth Form in September 2020 both excited to be back in school continuing their studies but also slightly apprehensive of what lay ahead. Despite these strenuous times, our Year 13 students also found the time to support one another and other students and to take part in returning extra-curricular activities like our Duke of Edinburgh programme and various art projects.
We are extremely proud of the maturity our Sixth Formers have shown during the disrupted time of their two-year study programme. They have rightly been rewarded by achieving some fabulous A-Level results that will no doubt help them to transition from school to University life or employment in the wider working world.
On behalf of all of us at Christleton High School, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate every one of our students on their hard-earned achievements. I would also like to extend thanks to our teachers for their commitment and professionalism in new and unexplored circumstances, and finally, to parents and carers, whose support and constant encouragement has no doubt meant so much to our students’ morale.”
At Christleton we feel it is important to celebrate all our students, regardless of their grades on the day, instead we measure what they have brought to our school community in their commitment to being kind, working hard, and achievements.
Here are some students we’d like to highlight that we feel intrinsically embody our five C’s (Caring, Collaborative, Committed, Creative, and Cheerful):
- Ben Rackham who ably demonstrated a kind and caring attitude throughout his time at Sixth Form, and intrinsically embodied a role model for our younger students achieved A, B, Distinction* (in Performing Arts).
- Victoria Jones also showed a great deal of collaboration within our school community, as well as achieving A*, A*, A*. Victoria was a part of our Student Leadership Team, taking up the role of one of our Head Students.
- Committing herself to her role as Deputy Head Student in our Student Leadership Team, Katy Snape won our Andrew Ranner award for her commitment to Christleton High School, and achieved A, A, B.
- Dylan Shone helped shine a light on students throughout their leavers activities, planning, organising and executing a number of leavers videos/productions, as well as being an active member of our Performing Arts community here at Christleton. Dylan achieved A, A, Distinction (in Performing Arts).
- Always cheerful throughout her time at Christleton, Freya Doyle became an active member of our Student Leadership Team, taking on the role of Head Student. Freya achieved A*, A, A.
Other notable successes came from:
- Alexander Partridge; achieved A*, A*, A*, A*.
- Katie Stanworth; achieved A*, A*, A*.
- Giovanni Muratori; achieved A*, A*, A*, A*.
- Tori Taylor; A*, A*, D* (in Performing Arts).
Special mentions must also be extended to the following students who highly exceeded their expectations:
- Tara Moghaddam received A, A, B.
- Ben Gillson received A*, A, A.
Director of Post-16 Education, Sheila Lister, was keen to praise our students for their achievements:
"As a Sixth Form Leadership team, we always have high expectations of our students in their academic studies. Therefore, I am delighted to say that this excellent set of results not only highlights the level of academic success our students have achieved within our Sixth Form but also demonstrates the immense personal growth and development they have undergone during the past few challenging years.
It was fantastic to see so many of our students relish in their success given that they were unable to celebrate their GCSE results.
These results are representative of the hard work our students put into their studying throughout the last two years, and it was fantastic not only to see so many happy faces as our students opened their envelopes but also to share in their success!
I really couldn’t be prouder, and I wish all of our (now) former students happy, healthy and successful futures. We can’t wait to see what you’ll achieve in the future."
