The Medical Association of Christleton High School (MACH) has a long and proud tradition of preparing students for the highly competitive Medicine courses. Due in part to the experiences and skills gained through MACH, many of our students go on to study these courses at top universities. Last year alone these included offers from Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, York, Leeds, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

How does MACH operate in the Sixth Form?

We host meetings throughout year 12 and 13 as part of MACH. The focus of these meetings is to enhance student applications. We often invite external visitors in to speak to our students too. In the past we have had medical students, junior doctors, dieticians and many more come in to share their experiences in healthcare. We discuss every element of the medical/healthcare application process and share opportunities for work experience and any other options that may arise. Students have the chance to discuss current topics in healthcare and medicine with like-minded peers which enhances their interview and communication skills.

What sort of opportunities are available?

Recently our year 12 and 13 MACH students had an invaluable visit from Dr Tom Jordan. He delivered a workshop about problem-based learning, communication and confidentiality in medicine. He also hosted a Q&A and students were able to discuss the application process and Tom's working life as an NHS doctor.
