Entry Requirements: GCSE Grade 5 or above in Geography (Students who have not taken GCSE Geography may be considered, but must discuss this with the Head of Department first).

Course Description

The world we live in changing and geography allows you to see why and how it is changing. Taking A-level Geography can enhance communication skills, literacy and numeracy, ICT, spatial awareness, team work, problem solving and environmental awareness.

Over the two-year course, you will focus on a range of human and physical topics and complete 4 days of compulsory fieldwork:

  • Human Topics These include dynamic places such as the impact of Globalisation and international development, how our local geography in impacted by migration and the Geopolitics of our world.
  • Physical Topics These include dynamic landscapes such as tectonics and natural hazards and coasts and the importance of coastal management. Physical systems such as energy and how sustainability can shape our future.
  • Fieldwork Independent investigation and learning outside of the classroom is an essential part of the course. 4 days of compulsory fieldwork visits take place in a variety of locations to help you understand both physical and human topics, to equip you to create your own independent investigation and to further develop collaboration and teamwork.

Progression

Further study: Geography is a facilitating subject, which means it is a highly regarded subject at university, as it teaches skills such as collaboration, research and analysis and time management.

Careers: Students who study Geography can consider careers in management, commerce, education, heritage, tourism, resource management and much more.
