Mathematical Studies
Head of Department: Mr K Sewell-Davies
Awarding Body: AQA
Entry Requirements: Grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths
Course Description
The AQA qualification in Mathematical Studies, also known as Core Maths, is equivalent to an AS qualification. You select it as part of the wider Year 12 programme and it does not take up option block. It gives you the skills needed to succeed in other A-Level courses (such as science and the humanities) and future careers. The course engages with real-life contexts and applications to the work place. Students who have taken the course have commented on how they have enjoyed keeping their maths skills sharp, without having to take an A-Level in maths. The course culminates with two exams at the end of Year 12 which can give you extra points towards your UCAS application.
