Course Description
You will be taught in a variety of ways, including, discussion and debate of ethical, religious and philosophical issues, with real life examples from what is happening in the news, presentations by students, video clips, move cube, kahoot and much more!
Year 12: Ethics, Philosophy and Christianity
- Ethics
- Ethical theories, e.g. Utilitarianism and Natural Law
- Practical Ethics, e.g. abortion and Euthanasia, sexual relationships, animal experimentation and Nuclear weapons
- Philosophy
- Arguments for/against the existence of God, e.g. does suffering prove God does not exist?
- Christianity
- Did Jesus rise from the dead? Is God a man?
Year 13: Ethics, Philosophy and Christianity
- Ethics
- Ethical theories, e.g. Natural Law applied to Immigration and Capital Punishment – should murderers be executed?
- Philosophy
- Psychology, e.g. Freud says God is a product of the human mind
- Atheism, e.g. terrorism – is religion the root of evil?
- Christianity
- Feminist theology – Has science disproved God?
Progression
Further study: All the Russell Group universities accept Religious Studies as ‘suitable preparation’, equal to the ‘facilitating subjects,’ and Oxford and Cambridge include RS in their top level list of suitable A levels.
Careers: The A level offered in Religious Studies has broad relevance, providing a good grounding for a whole variety of careers, such as: Nursing and Medicine, Social Work, Probation Services, Prison Services, Politics, Business and Marketing, Charity Sector, Journalism, Events Management, Public Relations, Teaching, Police Force, Counselling and Therapy Services, Financial Services.
